Yogassage is a modality of bodywork that is a unique blend of yoga and massage. In
a nurturing and supportive environment the client flows through a series of assisted yoga positions
while receiving massage techniques targeting specific muscle groups to facilitate the deepening of
postures and to assist in the release of chronic holding patterns. The level of client involvement
can move from passive relaxation to active participation depending on feedback, as the client is
encouraged to move within their comfort zone with a gentle suggestion to always be willing to move
a little beyond their perceived edge.
Practitioners are trained to recognize and allow for the difference in levels of
expertise they may encounter in each client, from the beginner with little or no yoga experience to
the most advanced student. They are taught to be sensitive to these differences and to be creative
in developing safe modifications that will insure the safety of the client and will also serve a
level of opening that can easily be integrated.
This method is unique in that it requires some degree of participation and
commitment on the part of the receiver that can affect healing in a whole and balanced way,
eliminating the notion of practitioner as “fixer”. Clients often report that they experience a
profound level of relaxation and release along with a renewed enthusiasm toward deepening their
own practice.
